Influence of Homogenization and Annealing Temperatures on the Microstructure, Mechanical Properties, and Passive Properties of Cold Rolled 2205 Duplex Stainless Steel

The effects of homogenization, cold working, and subsequent annealing treatment were studied on the microstructural evolution, mechanical properties, passive properties duplex stainless steel (DSS). A hot-rolled 2205 DSS was subjected to two processing routes. In one, goes through an extra homogenization step at 1100 °C for 1800 s before rolling. After deformation (~75%) specimens isothermally annealed 900, 1000, 180 s. microstructure evolution by optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron (SEM) X-ray diffraction (XDR). Mechanical evaluated microhardness tensile tests. electrochemical behaviors investigated potentiodynamic measurements, impedance spectroscopy (EIS) Mott-Schottky analysis (MS). Chemical composition lowest corrosion resistant film assessed photoelectron (XPS). Homogenization rolling lowered strain hardening, slowing transformation process. thermomechanical process did not change semiconductor type films. However, grain refinement after improved resistance in borate buffer solution. Cold significantly decreased resistance. specimen homogenized had high amounts Cr(OH)3 FeO.
